What and Who is Zighi Baci? “Ziggy,” as it is affectionately called, has
an interesting mythology—& translates as “Gypsy Kisses.” We play
authentic Old Italian classics, Italian-American favorites, various
ballo liscio (smooth dance) music as well as Latin love songs. The
featured tenor is Carlo Solivan whose soul passionately sings of hot,
torrid romances, deception and forgiveness. Guitarist Gianni Dolce
provides rhythmic intensity while the accordionist, Sheri Mignano who is
the trio’s musical director, arranges all the music. Together, each song
sparkles with the authentic Neapolitan style that instantly transports
the listener to Italy. Tender ariettas, lilting, passionate waltzes and
tangos deepen the experience of a live, acoustic performance.
At the end of the show, the trio enjoys bringing the audience into the
act by inviting them to sing along. A special syllabified song book
enables anyone to ‘become Italian’ and sing the tunes with the tenor and
the rest of the band.
Zighi Baci enjoys playing for house concerts, intimate affairs, wedding
receptions, and larger public venues.
About the band members:
Carlo Solivan has sung with Coro Allegro (under the auspices of the
North Bay Italian Cultural Foundation) for more than 12 years.
