Bill Sell and the Hoovers

Bill Sell and the Hoovers

Bill and Paul met at 17 years of age when Bill answered an ad in Melody Maker for a lead guitarist. It was love at first sight and now after too many years to mention they find themselves thousands of miles from their homeland, still writing and performing songs with the same enthusiasm and energy as ever. Unique observers of everyday life and emotions with an irreverent glare to authority.

The Hoover's latest iteration is a nod to the original Jamaican Sound System which married recorded music with live performance and was the pre-runner to Ska and Reggae. Now a three piece. Bill Sell-guitar and vocals, Paul Whiting-vocals and machine control and James Manning-bass, the music marries Ska and pop in ever evolving ways.

Refreshingly ‘NO COVERS HERE’.

Rivertown Poets

I'm excited to let you know that two Sonoma County Poets--Ed Coletti and Claire Drucker--will be our features. Ed is a veteran poet and poetry host in the county and Claire has a wonderful new collection of poems out from Kelsay Books. I know you'll enjoy them both. Please share and repost the attached flyers.

Open mic follows the features. For live readings, we set out the old clipboard and wait for the signups to appear (in lieu of pre-signups). We do stick to the three-minute-limit open mic rule, though.

Join us at the Aqus Cafe at 189 H Street in Petaluma (at 2nd St., just off Petaluma Blvd. South). Come early for delicious food, to get a seat, and to sign up for one of our 15 open mic slots. We start the reading promptly at 6:15.

An Announcement:

Rivertown Poets is expanding our team! I'm thrilled to welcome two wonderful poets and longtime Rivertown regulars, Shawna Swetech and Monica Volker. You've seen and heard them at live and Zoom readings. Monica and Shawna are working to learn all aspects of hosting, both behind the scenes and front and center. They've both had long nursing careers and are visual artists and healers as well as poets. I can't think of two better allies to keep us thriving. In the coming months, they'll be hosting our live readings at Aqus as I prepare for a major move. I plan to continue the Zoom readings one the dust has settled. I'll keep you up to date on the changes as they unfold.
