Ricky Watts
Richard "Ricky" Watts is a versatile artist of many mediums. Born in San Francisco, 1980, Ricky grew up in Petaluma and currently works out of his Sebastopol studio. From a young age, he loved to draw and would create his own comics, mostly involving dinosaurs, killer ants and army tanks.
Watts, a 2003 graduate of the Art Institute of California's San Diego campus returned to the bay area after college and found work as a designer for a local print company. In 2008, Watts left the printing industry to pursue freelance ventures.
While working in the print industry, Ricky began painting on canvas in the evenings. In 2004, his debut solo show "Spontaneous Combustion" at Boomerang Gallery in Petaluma got rave reviews and nearly sold out the opening night. This fueled his desire to create more works on paper, canvas, metal, wood and other found objects.
He has shown at galleries in San Francisco, Oakland, New York City, Los Angeles, Portland, San Diego and through out Sonoma County. His art has been featured in Refused Magazine, X-Funs (Taiwan), Bay Area Graffiti, Four G's magazine, Modern Fix, The Flop Box and Flo multi-zine.
Ricky currently works out of his Sebastopol, California studio. Laboring on his next art show, working on commissioned illustrations and scolding his cats, he can be reached by through his website at www.rickywatts.com

Project Here: Snap Shot
It’s the little things. The details. The finer points that make Petaluma what it is. And sometimes words just won’t do to tell that story. Snapshot is a show-don’t-tell project designed to illuminate the many intricacies (and eccentricities) of the people that bring life to Petaluma.
